Val Peake

Val Peake joined AMI in April 2019 as a Compliance Solutions Manager.

Ms. Peake earned a MA in Accounting, a BA in Business Administration, and a project management certification from Shaftesbury University.

In which of AMI's service areas have you worked? What are some of your most interesting cases?

I work on AMI’s Healthcare (HC) Team with a focus on monitoring individual healthcare practitioners.

What aspect(s) of AMI's work are you personally most passionate about, and why?

I really enjoy the “third party independent reviewer” role. Let’s face it – nobody wants to be monitored. I work with AMI because we are not “out to get” the client, who already feels like they are being kicked when already down. Together, we can turn an unfortunate situation into one that benefits not only the client, but the public which they serve. I work closely with my clients in an effort to make a positive impact. My role is to review, recommend, and report. Based on findings during the review, individualized comprehensive recommendations are offered to compel clients to implement or improve standards. All findings (good and bad) and recommendations are reported. It is important to remember that ultimately it is the client’s choice and responsibility to ensure their own compliance.

In what ways does your personal expertise complement our services?

I believe my background in training and program management gives me a unique insight into a client’s environment. I discovered long ago that everyone has a preferred method of seeing their world, interpreting data, and learning. Therefore, I work hard to understand the methods of others (client, monitor, the Board, etc.). I interpret and combine them into a cohesive representation based on actions, intent, and evidence. This allows me to build a suitable and individualized monitoring plan for each client.

Based on your experiences, what would you like prospective clients to know about AMI?

Independence, Integrity, and Experience are what make AMI the best at what we do. Each member of the Healthcare Team draws on years of experience in government, ethics, law enforcement, compliance, and risk management. These combined disciplines give us a well rounded ability to ensure fair and unbiased treatment, which includes providing objective, third-party perspectives on ethics and compliance programs, ethical cultures, and internal processes and controls, helping to strengthen compliance activities and demonstrate due diligence.

Do you teach and/or conduct seminars, speak at conferences, or serve on boards?

I am a certified Victim Advocate (VA) specializing in Domestic Violence and Program Management. I volunteer as VA for counseling centers by providing information, resources, and aid to those in need. On occasion, I present at a drivers education course on the dangers of drinking and driving.

What interests do you have outside of work?

When I’m not talking with my adult children, hanging out with my BFF, or playing with the dogs, I am crafty – I like making things. Most evenings (during my down time) I crochet while watching tv. I have been known to make jewelry, embroider, macramé, paint, build stuff; pretty much anything you can think of I will attempt. I get bored easily and enjoy learning new things. I love gnomes and have many in different shapes and sizes.
