Maureen Cullum is AMI’s Executive Director of Corporate Monitoring and Compliance Services and joined the company in April, 2018. Maureen received her Bachelor of Science degree from the Boston College School of Management with a concentration in Accounting, and an MBA from Bentley College.

In which of AMI's service areas have you worked? What are some of your most interesting cases?

Given my background managing financial functions in both start-up and corporate environments, my focus at AMI has been in our corporate line of business. Since joining the firm, my primary role has been as Project Manager for a large multilevel marketing client subject to a court order where AMI serves as the Independent Compliance Auditor. I’ve also been involved in supporting proactive monitoring engagements and a recent suspension and debarment case.

What aspect(s) of AMI's work are you personally most passionate about, and why?

I enjoy helping companies improve their control environments. As a former CFO of start-up ventures, I experienced first hand how difficult managing compliance can be due to limited financial resources. When companies recognize the need for an independent assessment of ethics and compliance programs, it’s a big step forward in identifying and addressing existing or potential risks and control weaknesses. It’s fulfilling to be part of that rehabilitation process.

In what ways does your personal expertise compliment our services?

Given my financial management background, I am well positioned to support AMI’s participation in M&A activity where an independent ethics and compliance monitor may be required as a condition of a merger. My CFO roles also allow me to bring my own experiences addressing fraud and rolling out ethics and compliance programs in organizations to AMI engagements.

Based on your experiences, what would you like prospective clients to know about AMI?

AMI has such a supportive approach to its assessments and monitoring work. We look to help clients improve their compliance environments and address any challenges in a firm, but reasonable way. It’s nice to be part of the solution and to see clients embrace the value of ethics and compliance in the workplace.

Do you teach and/or conduct seminars, speak at conferences, or serve on boards?

I serve on several non-profit Boards for Performing Arts organizations, primarily in the Los Angeles area. I also volunteer as a foster for a local Labrador & Golden Retriever rescue.

What interests do you have outside of work?

Singing has always been a great passion of mine and when the pandemic ends, I look forward to getting back to my church choir and other ensemble work as well. I also really enjoy walks and hikes with my dogs and finding ways to support the local community.
