Jim Anliot

Jim Anliot is AMI’s Director of Healthcare Compliance Services and joined the company in January 2004 as its first employee. Jim received his Bachelors from Oberlin College and earned his law degree from the State University of New York at Buffalo.

Mr. Anliot currently holds a Certification in Healthcare Compliance (CHC) issued by the Compliance Certification Board of the Health Care Compliance Association.

In which of AMI's service areas have you worked? What are some of your most interesting cases?

Virtually all of my work has been in the healthcare field, although I have been involved in one case of monitoring a client for compliance with state employment discrimination laws. In addition to managing practice monitoring cases for individual practitioners, I have evaluated practice operations for medical and chiropractic offices and designed internal compliance programs for them.

Some of my most interesting cases have involved evaluating the effectiveness of internal compliance programs, one for a network of mental health and substance abuse treatment clinics and the other for a private-sector dental insurance benefits administration company which had recently ventured into direct service delivery by purchasing a series of dental clinics in two states.

What aspect(s) of AMI's work are you personally most passionate about, and why?

I am most passionate about the role Affiliated Monitors can play in helping to improve the quality of healthcare services. While our practice monitoring and compliance program evaluations provide regulators with an objective, unbiased assessment of a healthcare provider’s performance, I think our greatest value comes from our ability to help individual practitioners and larger healthcare organizations improve the quality and effectiveness of the healthcare services they provide.

In what ways does your personal expertise complement our services?

I came to Affiliated Monitors having spent the previous 21 years in state government regulation of healthcare. I worked for four years as a compliance specialist with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health and then 17 years as a board attorney for a wide variety of state professional licensing boards. That experience, along with my legal training, enables me to understand the needs and agendas of government regulators and help our clients understand how they can comply with regulatory requirements in positive and effective ways.

Based on your experiences, what would you like prospective clients to know about AMI?

Affiliated Monitors provides services which are designed to improve healthcare service delivery and provider performance, not just serve as a watchdog for state or federal regulators. We are not probation officers or regulatory agency investigators, nor are we expert witnesses for providers and their defense counsel. Any client of Affiliated Monitors can count on our making every reasonable effort to be fair, neutral, and constructive.

Do you teach and/or conduct seminars, speak at conferences, or serve on boards?

I have made presentations to professional licensing boards, national associations of state regulatory agencies, and private groups to provide information about what we do, how we do it, and how it can create “win-win” situations which benefit all stakeholders. I am always available to teach or conduct seminars and speak at events – it actually is one of my favorite activities.

What interests do you have outside of work?

I am an avid reader of all types of fiction and non-fiction, particularly mysteries and political and espionage thrillers. I am also a devoted fan of Boston area sports teams, particularly the Boston Celtics, the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. I also love live theatre, and have actually been an actor in several local amateur theatre productions.

Jim also enjoys spending time with his new granddaughter, Olivia.
