Use of monitoring services from Affiliated Monitors, Inc. (AMI) recently helped a MPSA member avoid a three-day license suspension.

A sting by a local police department resulted in the sale of alcohol to an underage patron and a threatened license suspension. Negotiating with the local Board of Selectmen, the Police Department and the Town Manager, the MPSA member pointed out that the monitoring services of Affiliated Monitors would benefit the town more than suspension of his license, because it would help create ongoing compliance. Town officials agreed.

AMI assigned a professional with in-depth knowledge of regulations affecting the sale of liquor to monitor the store's operations, train staff and make recommendations for improvement.

"By using Affiliated Monitors, the MPSA member avoided a license suspension and gained a better-trained staff," said AMI President Vincent DiCianni. "The member benefited by keeping his business operating, but the town benefited, too, because the business is now more likely to achieve ongoing compliance."

AMI, an Associate Member of the MPSA, provides compliance programs for alcohol retailers, training staff to prevent prohibited alcohol and tobacco sales. AMI also regularly makes controlled purchases of alcoholic beverages to make certain package store owners and their staffs are vigilant in their efforts to prevent such sales.
